Cycling Thread by Simon Thread - out of a love of bicycle touring
My life's passion is bicycle tourism and that inspired me to create of the Cycling Thread. Cycling Thread is a collection of richly illustrated reports from the finest cycling routes across Europe, featuring countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Austria, the Netherlands and Poland. In my reports I also share the best practices for organizing cycling tourism in Europe. Every article is a fruit of my biking journeys - I am the author of all texts and photos. My views and opinions are based on many years of cycling experience - I've been traveling by bike for over 30 years now.
My mission to popularize bicycle tourism
Cycling Thread was created with the aim of popularizing cycling tourism. My inner mission is to encourage exploring the world by bike, as I consider this mode of travel to be the best and most beneficial. Cycling means you can spend almost your entire vacation outdoors, among beautiful landscapes and new places. You have the opportunity to discover locations and stories previously unknown to you. You can meet people and hear their tales. On a bicycle you're not sitting behind glass like in a plane or a car - the world is always within your reach.
Back to topWe need modern bicycle infrastructure
In my texts I describe both the attractions and interesting places worth seeing, as well as the cycling infrastructure leading to them. I write not only about how fascinating the world is, but also about how comfortably one can travel through it. This is because the availability of bicycle routes is crucial in cycling tourism, especially for older individuals or families with children. I devote a lot of space to good, modern cycling routes and to bike-friendly places, such as cyclist-friendly hotels and guesthouses. I enjoy visiting ready-made routes - tourist products created with cycling tourists in mind.
Back to topBicycle tourism like meeting over wine
On most of my trips, I am accompanied by my wife, Ola. Our friends are also frequent participants in our journeys. Four, six, and sometimes even twelve friends - that's how large our groups of cycling companions can sometimes be. This is how I see cycling tourism - as a gathering of good friends, inspiring great meetings and meaningful time spent together. Sometimes I even say that cycling tourism should be like a wine gathering with good friends – doesn't that say everything about my approach to bike travel?
Back to topMy honest and sincere opinions
On the pages of Cycling Thread, I share with my readers my own opinions about the routes I ride and the places I visit. In describing them, I draw from the knowledge I've accumulated over more than 30 years of my cycling activity. Sometimes I collaborate with the creators of the routes I visit and the organizations that manage them, but even then, the outcome is my honest, sincere opinion. The trust of my readers is very important to me, as they know that I provide them with credible reports and good inspiration.
Back to topNomination for the Traveler Online
My dedication to cycling journeys and describing the best destinations for bike travel has brought me a delightful accolade - a nomination for the Traveler Online award, given by the editorial team of the travel magazine National Geographic Traveler. I sometimes publish my reports in this magazine. I'm also increasingly making public appearances - at travel fairs, travel festivals, and cycling events.
Back to topMy texts, my photos and Drupal CMS
The Cycling Thread project is entirely created by me. I am the author of the name, I designed the logo myself and I write all the texts here. I am also the author of all the photos, which I take with a camera, phone and also a drone, which I always carry with me. I also designed the graphic layout of this blog myself. In the works on the blog mechanisms I relied on the excellent Drupal content management system.
Happy reading! And... have a safe ride! :-)
